Trip Overview

Traveling is all about wanting to get exposure to natural, cultural, religious, and historical beauty. And what better place than Nepal that gives you a perfect blend of all these experiences that hold on to your heart for a lifetime?

Kathmandu is a world of its own. From legends of the creation of this city to still being the land where the divine power resides, there could not be another city that encapsulates cultural and religious beauty more than this city. This modern city moves with time but does not forget its roots.

Nepal and natural beauty are spontaneous issues. Every mind gets the image of majestic mountains, forests, unbelievable landscapes, rivers, etc, when the name Nepal pops up. Pokhara, blessed with every natural beauty possible, attracts tourists due to its mountain views and lakes. For those wanting to do something adventurous, Pokhara has it all.

If you’re more on the forests, animals, and bird-loving side, Chitwan is your place. Visit the national park and if luck favors, you might see some endangered animals like the one-horned rhino with your eyes.

As for Lumibini, we strongly suggest you visit this place yourself to obtain the sense of peace where Lord Buddha took his first steps.

Tour Highlights

  • Tour Kathmandu, where culture and religion meet modernism.
  • The natural beauty of Pokhara will make you think about what an artist's nature is.
  • Lose yourself in the charm of Chitwan National Park.
  • Meditate and reflect near Maya Devi Temple in Lumbini.

Orchid Tours and Travels brings you an 11-day tour to these amazing cities, where you will get to experience the true Nepal.

Trip Itinerary

1

After you touch down, allow our representative to take care of your immigration stuff. Relax as he will drive you to the hotel. Choose to spend the rest of your first day in the city.

Either you can rest all day to prepare your body for the days ahead or explore the surroundings nearby. Later in the afternoon, we will host a small pre-trip meeting for you where you can share all your queries about your trip.

With that, your evening ends with a welcome dinner at the hotel. We suggest you sleep early because the next morning will bring a lot of surprises for you.

2

The sounds of temple bells and birds chirping will likely wake you up early. Try some Nepali items such as sel, jeri swari, and tea for your breakfast. How wonderful that all the major sites we will visit today are enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage Site?

Starting our day with Pashupatinath’s blessings. Just a reminder that there are 518 mini-temples on the premises other than the main temple. What’s more delightful is that all these temples, no matter how big or small, have great architectural designs.

Don’t be scared when you encounter sages with ashes rubbed all over their bodies and smoking tobacco greeting you. Non-Hindus are not allowed into the main temple.

After seeing too many faces at Pashupatinath, you may want to go somewhere calm. That is why our next visit will be Boudhanath Stupa. One of the largest Stupas in the world, this site symbolizes peace and harmony among Nepali people. The prayer hymns and the flying prayer flags will instantly freshen your mind. You may even meditate there for some time and feel the cool breeze around you.

Let’s get into the core of Kathmandu’s historical beauty. Inside and around the Museum of Kathmandu Durbar Square, you’ll likely find many answers. The museum that once used to be the palace of the Malla and Shah dynasties of Nepal presents the stunning architecture and cultural aspects that shaped the destiny of Kathmandu.

Let this evening be celebrated at Swayambhunath Temple. As you climb the long stairs, a giant stupa stands there waiting for you. You will get the entire view of the city as evening falls, and watch the entire city turn into glowy fireflies. And be careful of the monkeys up there.

Is there any better way to end a long day than with a delicious Nepali Thakali meal? After getting back to the hotel, enjoy the traditional Dal-bhaat and sleep peacefully.

3

Today is the day to visit a city different from Kathmandu. As the sun welcomes the day, we will pack our bags and drive to Chitwan. The drive normally takes 5-6 hours, depending on the weather and traffic situations.

The roads on the rolling hills will present the scenic beauty of the towns and small villages, and lots of greenery. Also, on some parts of the way, you will see the Trishuli River accompanying you.
You may notice that Chitwan is a lot warmer than Kathmandu. You will have plenty of time to freshen up. Have a meal of your choice and rest. Don’t just stay at your hotel. Invest your time in learning a lot about the natives by taking a tour of the Tharu Museum. You won’t be bored for a second as you experience the community's rich heritage.

When the sun goes down and the evenings are a bit cooler, take a tour of the Tharu village. Some friendly people may even invite you to their homes for some snacks or dinner.

You can either dine at the hotel or go to a local Tharu restaurant to eat while enjoying the Tharu dance.

4

Everybody wants to experience a jungle safari at least once. If this is your first one, then trust me, your experience in Chitwan will give you goosebumps. Bring your essentials, like hats and water bottles, along.

This full-day tour can either be done on a Jeep or an elephant. We recommend taking the Jeep because torturing animals for fun is not good.

You might as well carry your phones and cameras. While chances are rare, you may get glimpses of the royal Bengal tiger. You may often find a one-horned rhino crossing your way. Don’t stress the animal and do not make noise. You will just be fine.

The chances of spotting leopards are minimal but not zero. Catch elephants grazing in the forest with their little ones. Do take nature walks but stay under the guidance of the tour guide. During the walk, you can spot numerous species of birds, some so unique that you might never have seen or heard of.

Water activities are always fun, especially in a hot place like Chitwan. Paddling along the Rapti River is another way to beat the heat and enjoy nature. Elephant baths are something not to miss out on.

In the evening, you can rest in your hotel, looking at all the photographs you took during the fun day.

5

After collecting unforgettable memories in Chitwan, it's time to add some more memories to the list. This trip to Lumbini will rather be more cultural and religious but very interesting.

Within 4-5 hours, you will reach the birthplace of Lord Buddha. The moment you touch the place, a sense of calmness surrounds you. After some meal, we will explore the sacred garden, which features many interesting landmarks.

You can see the exact spot where Buddha was born and a giant pillar that consists of the inscription giving its proof.  You can catch a glimpse of the temple in a small pond beneath it. Admiring the beauty of the place, you will reach a sacred lamp that has been glowing for thousands of years.

You will find many monks chanting and meditating in the garden. You can also take some minutes to do the same. We’ll call it a day with a dinner at the hotel.

6

There are many monasteries in Lumbini built by different countries, each representing their way of Buddhism. No matter what their architectural designs, you will find one thing in common, the teachings of Buddha.

The Thai Sangraratana Monastery’s has a beautiful stupa and a meditation hall where you can pray and meditate in silence. As a respectful gesture, you can remove your shoes before entering. Similarly, you will find the same atmosphere in Chinese and Korean monasteries but their architectures are totally different yet so beautiful.

No matter the designs, all these monasteries try to depict the diversity in Buddhism that has shaped Lumbini for centuries.

7

Our next adventure begins as we drive from Lumbini to Pokhara. In this 4-5 hours ride, our bus will take us through some rural settlements and lush green fields that will never leave you bored. If the weather is clear, you might get a glimpse of mountains far away.

Upon reaching Pokhara, the weather suddenly gets mild and breezy. Take a cold shower at your hotel and have a good meal of the authentic Nepal dish of dal-bhaat. Take a nap for some time if you need to. After you wake up, take your favorite drink and chill by the side of Phewa Lake.

8

If this is your first time visiting Pokhara, it will possibly take your breath away with its natural beauty and hot spots. We can not miss the sunrise from Sarangkot Hill. The dark morning slowly turns golden as the sun rises and within no time the whole mountain range looks bathed in the golden sun. You will question yourself if the scene is even real. Just keep your fingers crossed that the morning isn’t cloudy.

After that, we will make our way to the holy Bindabasini Temple for blessings. Since this temple is at a height, you can get a whole view of the Himalayan range from the top. We chose early morning for visiting here because the crowds are less during that time. After a drive of nearly 20 minutes, we will reach Gupteshwor Cave, a holy temple that is deep inside a cave. On your request, you will be provided with a local guide who will tell you interesting legends about the mythology of these places.

Carry a flashlight with you, as the inside of the cave can be dark and narrow. You might also feel a bit suffocated as there is less oxygen. Towards the end of the cave, you will notice a holy temple, and a little below, you will hear a loud gushing of water flowing, which looks pretty scary.

When the morning is in its full glory, we will rent a boat and row on the pristine Phewa Lake. The sounds of the gushing water as you row forward are healing. And guess who will accompany you throughout the ride? A beautiful Annapurna Range. In the middle of the lake, on a small island, lies Barahi Temple. You can spend some time around the temple, clicking photos and rowing back.

Let’s make the afternoon a bit more adventurous by going paragliding or zip-lining. Enjoy the conversation with the guide along with the city view. And that much traveling calls for a peaceful sleep at night.

If you think you have already explored Pokhara enough, you are wrong because there is so much left for you to be in awe of. We won’t be rushing early morning like the previous day. After a lazy morning and breakfast, we will head toward Devi’s Fall.

This cascading waterfall near the Pokhara Airport with a hue of mystery shows nature’s fierce side. In the rainy season, the waterfall roars like thunder, creating small rainbows nearby. And that peaceful trip will be followed by a bit of adventure soon.

We will hike to the Peace Pagoda on a hill which will lead you through houses, farmland, and some forests. As you move closer, the Annapurna Range looks like a painting in the sky. And what an amazing view of the city you get from the top of the hill when you reach the white stupa.

Hiking and comfy shoes are best friends. So, put on your trekking shoes and bring water and some tasty snacks along. The peaceful ambiance makes you want to stay there forever. You can simply meditate and experience spirituality of some sort.

Let’s dedicate the last day of Pokhara to simply having fun at the lakeside. You can visit a restaurant by the lake and order your favorite dish with a drink. Enjoy your meal as the evening breeze creates a perfect atmosphere for you.

10

And it is time to bid farewell to Pokhara. We will catch an early morning bus to Kathmandu after breakfast. You will arrive in Kathmandu in 7-8 hours. That will still give you enough time to shop some Nepalese gifts for your loved ones back home. Rest for some time and freshen up.

As evening comes, you can simply roam through Thamel, where you can purchase a lot of hand-made items to decorate your home with. You can also grab a drink at a pub where you can chat with other foreigners as well. Pack your bags in your hotel room and sleep early.

FAQ's

Kathmandu, despite being the capital city is usually the cheapest city to live in. Also, for tourists, it offers modest living and dining options. Chitwan and Lumbini are slightly more expensive because of their natural and cultural importance. Pokhara, a tourist hub, can be very costly in its peak seasons. That said, it all depends on how a traveler chooses to spend their money.

It would not do justice to compare the beauty of Pokhara and Chitwan. While Pokhara attracts people due to its visually captivating landscapes, and mountains, Chitwan is rather on the wildlife beauty part. So, each city is beautiful on its own.
